CENTURY-OLD VINEYARDS THAT REPRESENT THE ROOTS OF OUR HISTORY, A SILENT WITNESS OF THE FAMILY EVOLUTION.
More than 300 hectares of our own vineyards distributed between La Rioja and Navarra with mean age of 50 years including vineyards that are more than a century old. Most of them are located on the southern slopes of Mount Yerga at an altitude of between 400 and 800 metres above sea level, on poor, stony soils that are ideal for a low yield vineyard of high quality.
The area’s continental climate, cold winters, warm and sunny summers with significant differences between day and night temperatures. A whole range of climatic influences and nuances that combined give the grapes a unique and distinctive character.
“We are identified by tradition and our winemaking philosophy; we never exploit the vineyard, whether it is old or young. We identify with the land and that is why we value it so much. We have always made organic wine, and we apply ecologism with the deepest conviction. We avoid the use of herbicides and pesticides because the land is our heritage and that of our children, to whom we want to leave all this in the best possible conditions, if possible, even better than how we inherited it”.
THE LAND IS OUR INHERITANCE AND THAT OF OUR CHILDREN TO WHOM WE WANT TO LEAVE ALL THIS IN THE BEST POSSIBLE CONDITIONS, EVEN BETTER THAN HOW WE INHERITED IT
An agriculture totally committed to nature. There is no use of insecticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers that could interfere and damage the biodiversity of soils and vineyards in any way. Fertilization is carried out by making use of the manure from the sheep that graze around our estate. Manure that, after fermentation and maturation with Californian red worms, produces a purified and enriched fertilizer with the bacteria that form part of the intestinal tract of the worms. Subsequently, this worm humus is mixed with subvolcanic rock dust, oophyte which, in addition to providing micronutrients to the soil, is capable of accumulating moisture, reducing the irrigation needs of the fields. An exquisite product for our vineyards and olive groves.
Vidau is the name given to our most special vineyards. Hundred-year-old estates planted by the first generations of the family with a blend of different varieties: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, Graciano and Monastrell. A blend of varieties that is transferred directly to the bottle obtaining the wines with the strongest personality of the winery: Vidau, Arvum and Vinsacro Dioro.
THE ORIGIN OF GOOD WINE IS TO BE FOUND IN THE FIELD AND IN THE METHOD OF CULTIVATION OF THE VINEYARDS.THIS IS WHY EACH VINEYARD IS PAMPERED AS IF IT WERE UNIQUE.
OLIVE GROVES AND VINEYARDS, A COMMON PAST AND FUTURE
Olive groves and vineyards have been cultivated in La Rioja since Roman times. Our great-grandfather cultivated them in the early years of the last century and two generations later, in 1998, we resumed their cultivation with the planting of 70,000 olive trees, following the same cultivation philosophy as in our vineyards.
The cultivated varieties are Arbequina and Tosca, the latter being of Tuscan origin as is the birthplace of the world’s most highly valued olive oils. These olives produce oils with exceptionally fine and elegant aromas and an unbelievably soft palate. These characteristics make them perfect to accompany and enhance the flavour of the best recipes without taking the main ingredients out of the picture.
A growing that we recovered from our great-grandfather, with enthusiasm and respect we seek to obtain an elegant and sincere oil that enhances the flavour of any recipe.
