Are you familiar with Becquer’s tale?
Explore the captivating history behind our wines as you embark on a journey through time! In 1588, the distinguished Bécquer family, originally known as the Beckers and originating from Moers, Germany, made a bold and historic decision. Motivated by the events of the Eighty Years’ War, they relocated from German lands to the sunny south of Spain, specifically to the enchanting city of Seville.
During the 16th and 17th centuries, the Bécquer family enjoyed a prosperous economic position and a well-established social status. However, as times changed, their social standing began declining. This historical backdrop sets the stage for a story that takes us to February 17, 1836, the birthdate of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. This birth marked the beginning of a legend that would forever connect Germany with Spain.
Bécquer’s youth was marked by adversity, including the loss of both parents. During this time, he resided with his relative Joaquín Domínguez Bécquer, a renowned painter who initially inspired him to pursue a career in the visual arts. However, it soon became evident that Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer’s true talent lay in literature.

In 1854, Bécquer decided to make the move to Madrid with hopes of publishing his verses. However, he found himself alone and disheartened, as reflected in his words: “Madrid, dirty, black, ugly like a fleshless skeleton, shivering beneath its immense shroud of snow.” This bleak period culminated in a severe lung illness that led him to the north of Spain, where the clean, fresh air would aid in his recovery. It’s in this region that our story intertwines with his life.
Our vineyards thrive in the same landscapes that inspired Bécquer in creating his final literary works. In honor of the poet, we proudly present “Bécquer de Autor,” a powerful and alluring wine that immerses you in his tales.
